Getting Fit for the Baby

TRX training helps me lose the baby weight

So I have waited and waited and waited but alas no baby has arrived at the time of writing. And in no uncertain terms waiting for a baby to arrive is torture (we are still a week out from the due date). For that matter the pregnancy thing goes on for far too long, 40 weeks, seriously? Most other animals on the planet suffer through less (apart from Alpine Salamanders that have the longest gestational periods that we know of, pregnancy lasts two to four years, depending on altitude).

With the intellect of the human mind, it gives you far too long to comprehend what is going on and all of the things you are likely to expect, what can go wrong (watching One Born Every Minute seriously doesn’t help, ignorance is bliss) and how much sleep you are going lose. I now have to keep my phone on me at all times, so every time I get a phone call asking about PPI or “Would I like to upgrade my phone?”, I have to at least check it. I have managed to change my wife’s ringtone to ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams so that I can take note or ignore a call more readily. A friend did recommend ‘Push it’ by Salt and Pepper but that got quickly shot down.

There’s something about having a baby that makes you want to get fit. I’m not sure why, maybe there’s a primordial instinct that wants to prepare you to fight to protect the object that is about to become the most precious to you. Or maybe it’s because being hopelessly unfit is depressing and you don’t want to be embarrassed in front of the little person that you want to be most proud of you. Either way it makes no sense, but I joined into our TRX classes (the gymnastic ring type suspension training) and I have to say that after the first 3 or so classes I am really enjoying them. The aching that is evenly distributed between my arms, legs and torso leads me to believe that I am doing a balanced exercise even if it is hard to work the next day! I think I may also join in the Pilates class starting on May 1st. We have just hired one of Bristol’s best Pilates instructors to run a progressive class on a Tuesday morning and a Thursday evening. There will be a class for beginners who want to develop and a class for those already more confident.

Last month I asked for all those that would like to help in some research on using our anti-gravity running machine for weight loss. I would like to thank all those who responded. I couldn’t believe the numbers of people who volunteered. We can only have a maximum of 4 people, so I am sorry to those who we didn’t have room to include but we will be using this to create a weight loss program that will be tailored to the individual that will be available to the public. If you are interested in the sound of this please contact us for more information. Indeed if you can’t wait for the next blog please follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest. You can link to them from our website.

One way or another, life will be different for my wife and I in the next issue so please keep all of your fingers and toes crossed for us that all goes well…oh and that it’s sooner rather than later!!
