Babies and readers in Cuba!

The Downend Voice travels a long way

Why don’t people knit you trousers for your new baby? Why do the in-laws always ask if we are in labour every time we ring? We are still 5 weeks away, the baby isn’t even engaged yet (engaged?! It’s not even born), what is this madness?! Don’t even get me started on antenatal classes!

The sun has finally started to shine and we have found ourselves enjoying the cosmopolitan Centre of Downend. I have just discovered the delights of Baguette Me Not, the little café with a big punch. It’s so obvious when you go to a place that puts the effort in that you need to run a successful business: good coffee, tea and a tasty variety of food, hot and cold. I’m pleased to see such a place in our high street. Indeed I’m proud of the culinary mecca that Downend has become. We tried out the new Jamaican restaurant this month as well, enjoying some tasty rice and peas and curried goat.

On Friday evenings I regularly go to the Bath Olympic Training Village to treat the GB Paralympic sprint team based there. On one such occasion this month I found one of the physios working with an elite athlete in the sand pit. When I asked her what she was doing, she had me hopping around in the sand just to show me how hard it is and how great for knee and ankle rehab it can be. Expect to see a working sandpit at Next Step imminently!

Next Step Exercise Centre continues to go from strength to strength. As well as running pay as-you-go Spin classes we have added TRX classes, which use suspension training not unlike the rings a gymnast would use. So if you want a body of a gymnast then join me on a Thursday evening to have a go!
I am looking for 4 people who are interested in losing weight for free. We have an antigravity treadmill that can take the strain off of all of your joints allowing you to exercise despite feeling too heavy normally! It’s a fantastic machine that we use in the football and rugby premiership for injury recovery but I would like to try an experiment to find out how good it could be for weight loss. So I am offering a free 3 month unlimited use for 4 people who are interested in losing weight and don’t mind having the results published. Please email me below if you are interested to see if you are eligible.

Lastly, if anybody is in any doubt about the reach of The Downend Voice, then I will let you into a little secret: Alexander Whitfield (he has given me consent to use his name), a counsellor with Third Sector Solutions, who was appointed MBE, came to see me in my professional capacity as a chiropractor after he read my blog from Cuba. It turns out that he also shares my new found enthusiasm for the beautiful Caribbean Island! Alex it has been a pleasure to meet you!
