Arthrosamid Injections
What is Arthrosamid
Knee osteoarthritis treatment at Cleve Chiropractic and Physiotherapy Centre
Knee arthritis can make a short walk, a flight of stairs or getting out of a chair painful. If your symptoms are still affecting daily life despite treatment, Arthrosamid® may be an option worth discussing.
At Cleve in Mangotsfield, Bristol, we offer Arthrosamid injections for suitable adults with knee osteoarthritis. This non-surgical treatment can help reduce pain and stiffness, making everyday movement easier. An assessment is the first step to finding out whether it is right for you.

Who might benefit?
Arthrosamid may be considered when knee osteoarthritis symptoms continue despite treatments such as physiotherapy, exercise, appropriate pain relief and weight management where needed.
It may be worth an assessment if:
- A steroid injection helped only briefly or made little difference.
- Persistent knee pain is limiting your usual activities.
- You have recurring swelling associated with knee osteoarthritis.
- You want to explore non-surgical options, or knee replacement is not suitable at this stage.
Swelling needs to be assessed before any injection. Arthrosamid must not be injected into an infected or severely inflamed joint. Your assessment will help establish what is causing your symptoms and whether treatment is appropriate.
What happens during treatment
Before the injection
Your clinician checks your medical history, medicines and allergies, including previous knee injections or surgery. You will discuss the possible benefits, risks and alternatives before deciding whether to proceed. Antibiotics are given before treatment to reduce the risk of infection.
During the injection
Local anaesthetic numbs the area around your knee. Arthrosamid is then injected into the joint. Excess joint fluid may need to be drained first. Treatment is carried out as an outpatient procedure, so an overnight hospital stay is not usually needed.
After the injection
You will receive advice on aftercare and returning to activity. Avoid strenuous exercise, running and long walks during the first few weeks, following your clinician’s instructions. Improvement can develop gradually, and it may take up to 12 weeks to assess the full benefit.
Questions patients ask
Is Arthrosamid a steroid injection
No. Steroid injections use medicine to reduce inflammation. Arthrosamid is a hydrogel implant that integrates with the lining of the knee joint. The treatments work differently, and your clinician can explain which option may suit you.
Can Arthrosamid help with knee swelling
Recurring swelling linked to osteoarthritis may be a reason to discuss Arthrosamid. Swelling can have other causes, so it needs assessment first. An infected or severely inflamed joint must not be injected.
Can Arthrosamid replace knee replacement surgery
Arthrosamid is an option for managing symptoms in suitable patients. It cannot guarantee that you will avoid surgery. If your symptoms significantly affect your quality of life, we can discuss whether a surgical opinion is appropriate.
Can it be used for hip or shoulder arthritis
Arthrosamid is intended for adults with knee osteoarthritis. This service is for knee treatment. If another joint is painful, contact us to discuss an appropriate assessment.
How much does Arthrosamid cost at Cleve
Arthrosamid treatment is £2,400. Contact the clinic to confirm the current fee, what it includes and whether assessment or follow-up appointments are charged separately.
How long can Arthrosamid relief last
Published research has reported improvements in knee pain, stiffness and function lasting up to five years after a single treatment. These findings are encouraging, but they do not guarantee that everyone will benefit or that relief will last five years.
One five-year study followed a small group of patients and had no comparison group; 27 of the original 49 participants completed the five-year follow-up. We will discuss the evidence and its limits during your assessment.
